Scoop Story
Based on Jigna Vora’s book, ‘Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison,’ ‘Scoop’ delves into the events surrounding the sensational J Dey murder case, Jaideep Sen that shook the nation. In the show, Karishma Tanna portrays a character named Jagruti Pathak, inspired by Jigna Vora, while Prosenjit takes on the role of Jaydeb Sen, loosely based on the late journalist J Dey.
Jyotirmoy Dey(Jaideep Sen – in Scoop), renowned for his expertise in the organized crime sector of Mumbai, served as the crime and investigations editor for the esteemed tabloid Mid-Day. Tragically, he was shot dead in broad daylight on June 11, 2011. As the investigation unfolded, Jigna Vora found herself implicated in the case.
In 2012, Jigna Vora(Jagruti Pathak), who held the position of Deputy Bureau Chief at Asian Age newspaper, was charged under the stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The allegations against her included criminal conspiracy, murder, and destruction of evidence.

According to reports, Vora was alleged to have been in contact with gangster Chhota Rajan, who was convicted of carrying out the assassination of J Dey. The chargesheet claimed that Vora had provided Rajan with Dey’s address and license plate number due to a professional rivalry with the senior journalist. However, Jigna Vora vehemently denied these accusations, maintaining that her interaction with Rajan was solely for the purpose of an interview. Asian Age, the newspaper Jigna Vora worked for back then, published the news on May 3, 2018, when Chhota Rajan with 8 others got a life term for J Dey’s murder while proving Jigna Vora innocent and free of all charges.
Why was Jaideep Sen aka Jyotirmoy Dey killed?

The motive behind Sen’s murder was to conceal the shocking revelation of a secret alliance between the Mumbai Police and the notorious underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim. Imran, sharing Sen’s call records with Pathak, unveils a disturbing truth: the Intelligence Bureau had been training two of Chhota Rajan’s associates to carry out an assassination on Dawood. This revelation exposed the deep-rooted corruption within the system.
When the imminent threat to Dawood’s life came to the attention of Pratap Acharya, who was the Commissioner of Police at that time and currently holds a position as the leader of the ruling party, he assigned Deputy Commissioner of Police Ramesh Malik to capture the potential assassins. Sen, having discovered the intricate conspiracy during his time in Europe and confirming its authenticity, became a liability. His knowledge reached the ears of those involved, prompting them to silence him permanently.
Pathak, with her connections and vulnerability, was chosen as the perfect scapegoat to divert attention from the true culprits. Her involvement in organized crime and her experiences as a journalist had left a bitter taste in her mouth, disillusioning her with the profession she once cherished.

Despite her reservations, Scoop concludes with Pathak contemplating whether the story should be shared through a news piece or a book. The undeniable truth must be exposed, for some truths demand to be revealed to the world.
In July 2012, Jigna Vora was granted bail on the grounds of being a single parent with no prior criminal record. Finally, in 2018, she was exonerated of all charges in the case, putting an end to her prolonged legal battle.
