Indian director Anurag Kashyap has made a return to the Cannes Film Festival, with his latest film “Kennedy” set to be showcased under the Midnight Screenings section. This marks Kashyap’s fifth appearance at the festival, having previously screened “Gangs of Wasseypur,” “Bombay Talkies,” “Ugly,” and “Raman Raghav 2.0” at earlier editions.
“Kennedy” is the only Indian film selected for the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 16 to May 27, 2023. The film features an impressive cast, including Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhat, and Abhilash Thapliyal. It follows the story of a taxi driver in Mumbai who becomes embroiled in a web of corruption and deceit.

The announcement of Kashyap’s latest film being selected for the festival has been met with enthusiasm by his fans and followers. Many are calling it a “comeback” for the filmmaker, whose recent films “Choked,” “Dobaaraa,” and “Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat” were not well received.

Kashyap has a longstanding association with the Cannes Film Festival, with his films receiving critical acclaim at the festival in the past. “Gangs of Wasseypur” was screened at the 2012 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, while “Bombay Talkies” premiered under Special Screenings at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. “Ugly” received a standing ovation in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, and “Raman Raghav 2.0” debuted in the Director’s Fortnight section at the 2016 festival.
The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most prestigious international film festivals, showcasing the best in world cinema. This year’s festival will feature films by acclaimed directors such as Wes Anderson, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Wim Wenders, Ken Loach, Todd Haynes, and Steve McQueen. The opening film will be Maiwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry,” starring the director opposite Johnny Depp.
